Shawn came into this world on July 22, 1965, in Chandler, Arizona as the youngest child of Richard and Carol Hickenbottom. He grew up together with his older brothers named Randy and Scott and an older sister named Shari. He was an athlete from a young age, but he decided to become a professional wrestler at the age of 12. Since Shawn’s father was an Air Force Pilot, the family moved around frequently. Moreover, Hickenbottom did not like Michael’s name, so his family and friends started calling him Shawn.
After his graduation, he attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. However, he dropped out of college to pursue his career in wrestling entertainment.

Professional Life
After leaving the college, he started training under Mexican professional wrestler Jose Lothario. He began as a professional wrestler by working for National Wrestling Alliance’s (NWA) on October 16, 1984. Furthermore, he also worked for the Texas All-Star Wrestling (TASW) and the American Wrestling Association (AWA).
In 1987, he joined World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as a member of The Rockers but was fired just after two weeks. Due to this, he had to return to AWA. A year later, the WWE rehired the group and soon became popular among women and children. After The Rockers split, the WWE management put him with Sensational Sherri, who also sang the first version of his new theme, ‘Sexy Boy.’
WWE chairman Vince McMahon allegedly allowed him and his friends Diesel, Ramon, and newcomer Hunter Hearst Helmsley (Triple H), known together as The Kliq. After that, Michaels returned to the WWF at the Royal Rumble match in 1996 and received a WWF Championship match in the main event at WrestleMania XII. Furthermore, during the game against The Undertaker at the 1998 Royal Rumble, Michaels suffered severe back injuries. Due to this reason, he was forced to retire for the first time on the night after WrestleMania XVI. After his retirement, he served as the WWF Commissioner from November 1998 to June 2000. After an 18-month hiatus, he made a comeback to WWE television in June 2002.
