(1984–1992) and her lead role as ditzy matriarch Jessica Tate on the sitcom Soap (1977–1981) during her five decades on television.
On Coach, she played Doris Sherman; on Everybody Loves Raymond, she played Lois Whelan (the mother of Debra Barone). She also appeared on variety shows as a guest. Terry Gilliam’s Brazil (1985) and Alfred Hitchcock’s Family Plot (1976) Overboard all featured Helmond in supporting roles (1987).
