Chuck was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 10, 1921, to Alban Francis Connors and Marcella Connors. Chuck grew up in the Bay Ridge district of Brooklyn. He’s sister Gloria, who was two years younger than him. He attended the Adelphi Academy, a private school with an athletic scholarship, and graduated in 1940.

Chuck went to Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, on a baseball scholarship. He was the first baseman at Seton Hall University. He ask “chuck it to me”, so he got his nickname “Chuck” here.
